Somewhere at every Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. function the traits of love, leadership, camaraderie, and service can be seen. However, what may go unnoticed to the untrained eye, is Bro. Kevin Randolph from the Epsilon Alpha Chapter, who is pushing for the same things, to get seen by potentially hundreds of thousands of people, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and through the future of the next generation. If you are puzzled at what Bro. Kevin is pushing, here are three words…Specialty License Plates.

These plates travel all over, not just in the state of Texas, but all over the nation. Bro. Kevin Randolph has helped to contribute to near 100 members, either keeping their specialty license plates or enrolling in the Lone Star State License Plate Program. Kevin states that his goal is for over 90 percent of the Epsilon Alpha chapter and over 75 percent of brothers in the state of Texas to maintain Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. specialty plate status. The specialty plate fee is $30 and $22 of that goes to funding scholarships and educational programs.

“Education is the driving force behind everything in the world. You never stop learning and from that we can make so many advancements and go so far. Buying an organizational plate is an easy way to make a small investment in the future of the next generation or a person wanting to achieve more. These scholarship and educational programs will help turn these students into contributing members of society.” -Bro. Kevin Randolph-

Kevin Randolph became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. in the Spring of 2018, through Epsilon Alpha and since that time, he has been “boots to the ground”. Currently, there are over 300 members in Texas with these specialized plates and Bro. Kevin Randolph doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

It’s a Saturday morning, on the Southside of Fort Worth, a part of town that has seen better days, but a community that feels that it can be restored, with help. Well on this fateful Saturday, you can see the glow of royal purple, you can hear saws cutting, nails being hammered and the smell of jubilation in the air.  This is all because of a joint effort between the Epsilon Alpha Chapter and Omicron Gamma Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Their goal is to positively impact a neighborhood and adversely change the lives of a family in need, by building a home with Habitat for Humanity.

“I just wanted to do my part to give back to the community and help a family be able to gain access to a safe, affordable, quality, home that will hopefully help them build a better future. Our goal as men of Omega is to leave people with positive lasting impressions and hopefully this will be one that last a lifetime” stated Bro. Tony Culton, one of the organizers of this project.

One of the members from the Omicron Gamma Gamma Chapter “Our philosophy is to...take action! The impact of that action could be the positive change that people need and could potentially change the world. OGG is a chapter of service and action, and I think it is on display here again today and serving with Epsilon Alpha also allows for Fellowship for an excellent cause.”

Habitat For Humanity has a vision of where everyone has a decent place to live. The men of these chapters of Omega Psi Phi put in hard work and service and were able to get a majority of the structure finished and they look forward to completing future Habitat For Humanity projects.

Epsilon Alpha Chapter Continues Adopt-A-Highway Program

While the temperature continued to drop to brutally cold levels and the ground continued to absorb the precipitation from the down pour from the previous three days, Omega men from the Epsilon Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc, gathered in order to support the Epsilon Alpha Adopt-A-Highway Project. Adopt-A-Highway is a Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) program designed to help keep the state’s highway roadsides clean and attractive. Adopt-A-Highway succeeds by encouraging residents/businesses to help combat the ever–increasing problem of littering by “adopting” a County road or highway. In exchange, for cleaning their adopted area four (4) times in a calendar year volunteers/volunteer organization receive a sign of recognition put at the beginning of each end of their adopted area.

The Epsilon Alpha Adopt-A-Highway Project, also helps to keep Tarrant County cleaner and healthier, saves taxpayer dollars, promotes local community involvement, promotes civic responsibility and pride, and provides recognition for individuals, organizations, and companies. Community members and grade school students were invited to participate (often to acquire mandated volunteer hours) and also fellowship with members of Epsilon Alpha and the community. The Epsilon Alpha Adopt-A-Highway Project is an ongoing effort headed by the Committee Chairmen of Brother Clarence Brooks and Brother Teddy Jones.

Brother Teddy Jones stated:

“CB (Clarence Brooks) and I wanted to think of ways Epsilon Alpha could make a bigger impact in the community, give back more, and something that hopefully would start a legacy. So, when CB thought of participating in the Adopt-A-Highway program, it was a no brainer, especially since both of us had run a similar program at our previous chapters. I knew that littering was serious business and It is something that unfortunately is a big problem, giving the size and depth of our great state of Texas.

Adopt-A-Highway was something that we knew could turn into a great chapter tradition, because every adopted mile in Texas equals savings, and the more the state saves, the more they hopefully will have to fund the education of students across the state, like the ones out here with us today.”

Epsilon Alpha’s has a goal of collecting over 40 bags of trash each year and maintaining a clean and attractive environment. During this outing, twelve (12) large garbage bags were collected by the side of the Epsilon Alpha five (5) mile stretch, along Highway FM 1187 and East Rendon Crowley Road, in Burleson, TX.

The Epsilon Alpha Chapter Annual Thanksgiving Serve

11/14/2018

The afternoon had barely turned into evening on November 14, 2018, and Michelle Jenkins, a proud resident of the Southside of Fort Worth, was already waiting in line inside the Sycamore Community and Family Services Center for a Thanksgiving meal.

“I wanted to be one of the first ones in line to get my Thanksgiving dinner, because I believe there is going to be a long line out here, because the food is always exceptional, and I didn’t want to miss out. In addition, I have two sons and exposing them to positive black males is always as bonus, plus my son wanted to see yall hop and jump around” said big smiling Michelle.
Michelle Jenkins, who is battling unemployment, has been coming to the Thanksgiving Serve meal give-a-way for the last three years. This year she is accompanied by her 14-year-old nephew, James and her younger niece Raquel. She said she's grateful to be alive and to be able to share another Thanksgiving with her kids, family, and friends.

“It means a lot to me, especially for people on the Southside. A lot of us are low-income and middle-class people, just working hard and looking for a little help." Jenkins said. "They (Omega Men) help the poor people in the area, the middle class, they just help everybody, especially single moms and kids"

Just then Teddy Jones, one of the two Epsilon Alpha coordinators stated, “Please come on in and get your plate from one of the brothers and come on down the line, we have a large variety of food to hopefully please everybody. There's going to be plenty of turkey and dressing, so everybody take your time and practice good manners.”

Over a hundred pounds of food will be handed out this year. We set a goal of just helping the community by being able to feed at least 100 people and families, but the love and generosity from the chapter (Epsilon Alpha members), as well as the community, touched us, as they continued to pour donations into us, allowing us to be able to bless over 300 families and people. We set a record, but more importantly we did good for the people of the community.”.
Jeff Garcia, a homeless man, stated "This is outstanding, and the cold and rainy weather we have had lately would not keep me away from a free and hardy meal and the chance to meet new people.”

The Thanksgiving Serve was from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the Sycamore Community Center in Fort Worth, TX. The Thanksgiving Serve was a free event designed to benefit the homeless and lower income families and provide them with food, fun, and a means to hopefully a better life. It was a joint effort event in conjunction with the Parks and Recreation Department of Fort Worth and several other community and non-profit business and organizations.

While the wind was blowing and the weather was very brisk, on Saturday, January 20th, 2018, Twenty (20) Omega men from the Epsilon Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc, gathered in an effort to support the Epsilon Alpha Adopt-A-Highway Project. Adopt-A-Highway is a Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) program designed to help keep the state’s highway roadsides clean and attractive. A DAY ON NOT A DAY OFF: DR. MLK JR. DAY PARADE 2018

1/15/2018

This year marked the 50th anniversary, since the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., lost his life to an assassin's bullet in Memphis, Tennessee. Shot down and silenced on April 4, 1968, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dedicated his life to speaking out against injustice, inequality, poverty and war. Museums and other cultural institutions are planning special programming to mark both the King Day of Service on Monday and the day of his assassination. The great men of the North Texas Omegas of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., which is comprised of all chapters in Dallas and Tarrant County, Texas; wouldn’t have it any different, as they continue to be a beacon of their cardinal principals of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift, on this memorable, but somber occasion, by walking in the 2018 MLK March Parade and Rally in Fort Worth.

“While many see Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, as a day off, we see it as a “day on.” It’s an opportunity to start the year off in the correct way, which is having and exhibiting the spirit of service and selflessness, in which Dr. King displayed throughout his various works and his life” stated David Washington, as he proudly walked holding the Omicron Gamma Gamma Chapter, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. banner.

“Dr. King was an outstanding leader and a great man, and being able to give back and do my part to keep his dream and his story alive with the next generation, I feel it is part of my duty and responsibility stated Bro. Victor Norris” as he proudly walked holding the Epsilon Alpha Chapter, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. banner.
“I am honored to be able to have the opportunity to walk down this street and have a celebration of Dr. King’s life. Everyone out here, is not the same they may be Jew or Gentile, but it is a blessing for us to be able to worship and celebrate in the same space without fear of retaliation or violence.”  Those were the words spoken by, Bro. Stacy Boyd, as he proudly walked holding the Epsilon Alpha Chapter, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. banner.

The parade began at Ninth and Commerce Streets, headed west on Ninth Street, north on Houston Street, east on Weatherford Street, and south on Main Street, before ending with a rally in Sundance Square Plaza.

DR. MLK JR. DAY 2018: HELPING HANDS PROJECT

1/15/2018

MLK Day, as it is affectionately known and referred to in many communities, is a federal and school holiday, but more importantly, it has become an annual Day of Service celebrated across the country. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a day of growth, strength, perseverance, equality, and reflectiveness. It is strongly believed that “unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word”, like Dr. King said many years ago. This can be shown and continue to be made a reality in many ways. The Epsilon Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. along with the North Texas Metroplex Omegas, honored the memory and spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by volunteering to improve not only the community, but the fabric of it.

This was exhibited, as the spirited men of Omega, participated in one of their namesake projects entitled “Helping Hands”. Helping Hands are project-based activities, in which the men of Omega use their hands to help out others in many ways. Past projects undertaken on MLK Day of Service have included tutoring elementary school students, upgrading school classrooms and resource centers, painting, landscaping and remodeling houses for low-income families and homeowners, and giving away coats and clothing. They believe that small changes can have a huge impact within their own neighborhood.

The activity chosen for MLK Day 2018 was passing out nourishing, warm meals and water, to the homeless and people in need. The men of Omega pulled up with truck loads, organizing quickly to make sure to meet the needs of the masses. People from all walks of life came from all over and were blessed and pleased that someone cared. This activity was conducted in a safe, large, green-environment area, across from Unity Park in Fort Worth, TX. This area had plenty of space to sit and eat, and enjoy and reflect on the day and to be appreciative for the diversity of company and comradeship that this meal could be shared with.

NORTH TEXAS METROPLEX ACHIEVEMENT WEEK

11/19/2017

Each year, the 700-plus worldwide individual chapters of the prestigious Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated observe Achievement Week as part of the Fraternity’s founding, on November 17, 1911, at Howard University in Washington, D.C. This year was no different, as the North Texas Metroplex Omegas and the Epsilon Alpha Chapter painted the DFW Metroplex royal purple and old gold November 13th – November 19th, as members of this prestigious, international fraternity celebrated 85 years of service during their annual Achievement Week celebration.

Founded in 1932, the Epsilon Alpha Chapter is known throughout Tarrant County and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex communities, for its generosity and willingness to help those in need. Epsilon Alpha answered the theme: When The World Calls Omega Men Answer”. This was shown through tireless effort and outstanding giving this past year, such as a fan drive for seniors in the summer, car washes, blood drives, coat and clothing drives, and unfortunately highlighted by collecting, packaging, and sending thousands of contributions to Hurricane Harvey victims in Houston, TX.

The Epsilon Alpha Chapter celebrated their legacy, along with other chapters of the North Texas Metroplex Omegas, starting out the week with an outstanding church service at St. John Baptist Church, followed by a Monday Night Football Watch Party on November 13th. This was followed up on Tuesday November 14th with Bowling with Brothers, a Cigar Social on Thursday, November 15th, and the annual Founders Day and Reclamation Celebration on Friday, November 17th.”

The highlight of Achievement Week was the Achievement Week Banquet held on Saturday, November 18th. The event, held at Concord Church in Dallas, TX, was designed to recognize individuals in the community who make the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex a better place to live, work, and entertain.

Before award recipients were recognized for their good deeds and community service, Bro. Aundra Bohanon, President of the North Texas Metroplex Omegas and Immediate Past Basileus of Epsilon Alpha Chapter, provided a riveting greeting.

“As, I look out over this room, you all being here is a testament to what the faces of intellectual triumph and steadfast determination looks like. You all are truly a reflection of what Omega Men looks like when they answer the calls of the world!”

Following dinner, Bro. Van Newborn’s, immediate Past President of the North Texas Metroplex Omegas, gave an intriguing introduction of the keynote speaker Bro. Terry Forest.

“Bro. Terry Forest is an outstanding representation of what an Omega Man should be. He is a dynamically hard worker, he is creative and passionate about improving the community. He will always make sure that those around him, as well as himself, aspire to give more and ascend to a higher level.”
Then, former North Texas State Representative, Bro. Terry Forest stepped to the podium and in doing so, took the room over with his creative and unique style addressing the theme for the evening, “When the World Calls, Omega Men Answer.”

“When the world calls, as men of stature and leaders in the community, we as Omega Men should always answer. There should never be time, where we are not present, accountable, and effective. Answering should be a personal challenge to each and every one of us, because solving problems and seeing it through is what we should do we are Omegas.”

“When we work together, we are an unmovable and unstoppable force. Let’s continue to answer the call and be the men…making a great impact, for an exceptional future, through extraordinary actions.”

The Achievement Week Banquet was then closed out by current North Texas State Representative Bro. Anthony Whitaker.

The Epsilon Alpha Chapter closed out Achievement Week celebrating their legacy with a phenomenal church service at Saint Luke Community UMC on Sunday, November 19th.
